The GCSP 2026 Award for Innovation in Global Security (CHF 10,000) stands out as a unique opportunity for Cape Verdean creators who wish to contribute to addressing contemporary security challenges. Organised by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, the prize aims to support projects that combine technology, public policy and community-based approaches to strengthen resilience in the face of transnational threats, such as climate change, cyber security and humanitarian crises.
Applicants may submit proposals either individually or as a team, provided they clearly demonstrate innovation, feasibility and the potential for impact in resource-constrained contexts – a common reality on many of the archipelago’s islands. The jury places particular value on initiatives that incorporate local knowledge, promote youth participation and establish partnerships with Cape Verdean academic institutions or NGOs. The winners will receive not only CHF 10,000 in funding, but also mentoring from international experts, access to networks of security specialists and the opportunity to present their findings at a global forum in Geneva.
Previous editions have already shown how simple ideas – such as early warning systems based on community radio or flood risk mapping platforms – can be scaled up with the right support. This track record inspires new applicants to think beyond borders and to adapt global solutions to the cultural and geographical specificities of Cape Verde.
The deadline for submissions is 23 September 2026. Applications must be submitted via the official link: https://www.gcsp.ch/global-insights/gcsp-prize-innovation-global-security Good luck to all Cape Verdean innovators taking the next step towards a more secure future!
