COP31 Fellowship for journalists and reporters This represents a unique opportunity for communications professionals who wish to help raise awareness of Cape Verde’s island-specific and climate-related initiatives. This programme, organised by the Climate Policy Commission (COP31), aims to strengthen the network of journalists who, through well-researched reports and in-depth analysis, raise awareness amongst both local and international audiences about the reality of the region’s environmental and socio-economic challenges.

Those selected will have access to advanced training workshops led by experts in climate change, data journalism and science communication, as well as field visits to renewable energy and sustainable agriculture projects on the islands. In addition, they will receive personalised mentoring to produce a series of reports that may be published in partner media outlets, thereby raising the profile of the work being carried out in Cape Verdean communities.

Applications are open to journalists, reporters and photographers who have at least two years’ practical experience and demonstrate a commitment to environmental issues. The selection process involves the submission of a portfolio, a letter of intent and an online interview, ensuring that candidates present innovative projects that are aligned with the objectives of COP31.

The assessment phase involves a multidisciplinary panel comprising academics, award-winning journalists and representatives of non-governmental organisations, ensuring an impartial and thorough assessment. Those who are selected will take part in an intensive six-week programme dedicated to the design, production and publication of features that will engage directly with public policy and the local population.

Deadline for applications: 15 September 2026.
