IOC Centre for Olympic Studies — PhD and Early Career Fellowships 2027
This initiative by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) presents a unique opportunity for researchers from Cape Verde who wish to further their research in the fields of sports culture, event management and public policy on sport. This fellowship is aimed at early-career PhD graduates who wish to develop projects of excellence over a two-year period, with direct support from internationally recognised mentors.
### Purpose of the grant
The 2027 PhD and Early Career Scholarship aims to promote academic research that contributes to a global understanding of the contemporary challenges facing sport – from social inclusion to the sustainability of major events. The programme offers full funding for thesis-related expenses, access to exclusive IOC archives and the opportunity to take part in international workshops.
### Who can apply?
- Holders of a PhD in the fields of History of Sport, Sports Management, Physical Education or related fields;
- Professionals with up to five years’ post-doctoral experience;
- Citizens of countries officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
### Application process
- Draw up a research plan of up to 2,500 words;
- Please submit a detailed CV and letters of recommendation;
- Submit the proposal via the official platform by 30 September 2026.
The shortlisted candidates will be assessed by a panel comprising experts from the IOC and partner universities, based on the originality, relevance and feasibility of the projects.
