With the intention of promote tropical conservation In line with the goal of fostering sustainable development, we launched the “Ceiba Seeds of Sustainability – Grants for Tropical Conservation” program. This initiative aims to support innovative and impactful projects that address urgent environmental challenges in Cape Verde, focusing on biodiversity protection and the promotion of sustainable practices for local communities. We are looking for researchers, NGOs, and community groups that demonstrate a commitment to the responsible management of natural resources, with an emphasis on preserving the archipelago's unique terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The grants will fund initiatives ranging from the restoration of degraded habitats and the control of invasive species to the development of blue and green economy models that directly benefit Cape Verdean populations.

We firmly believe that effective conservation involves actively engaging local communities and integrating traditional knowledge with modern scientific approaches. Therefore, funded projects should include components of environmental education, capacity building, and community engagement, ensuring that the benefits of conservation are shared and sustained in the long term. The “Ceiba Seeds of Sustainability” initiative seeks to foster a legacy of ecological resilience and social prosperity in Cape Verde, strengthening local capacity to address climate change and protect natural heritage for future generations. Project selection will be based on originality, feasibility, and potential impact, as well as the demonstrated ability of the proposing teams to achieve the established objectives.

Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals addressing critical areas such as the conservation of endangered endemic species, the protection of coastal and marine areas vulnerable to erosion and sea-level rise, and the promotion of sustainable economic activities such as responsible ecotourism and resilient agriculture. Examples of projects could include the reintroduction of keystone species, the creation of community-managed marine protected areas, or the implementation of agroforestry systems that improve soil health and biodiversity. The program is open to collaboration between different actors, including academic and governmental institutions and the private sector, encouraging strategic partnerships that maximize the results and sustainability of the proposed actions.

Applications will be evaluated by a jury specializing in conservation and sustainable development. The selection process prioritizes innovation, clarity of objectives and methodologies, and the financial and environmental sustainability of the projects. The “Ceiba Seeds of Sustainability” grants will offer substantial funding, accompanied by technical support and mentoring to ensure the success of the approved initiatives. This is an invitation to be an active part in building a greener future for Cape Verde. For more information and to submit your proposal, visit: https://ceiba.org/partners/sosgrant/#eligibility
