International Funding Opportunity for Cape Verdean Civil Society
A Oak Foundation is launching a new round of financial support by inviting letters of interest from non-profit organisations operating in Cape Verde. This initiative aims to empower non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and local community associations, promoting the implementation of projects with a lasting impact in the areas of social justice, human rights and environmental sustainability.
Areas of Intervention and Impact in Cape Verde
The funding is intended for community- and national-level initiatives that address structural challenges in the archipelago. The foundation’s priorities include:
- Women’s Rights and Child Protection: I support projects aimed at preventing violence, promoting equal opportunities and empowering vulnerable groups.
- Climate Action and the Environment: Projects focused on the conservation of Cape Verde’s marine and terrestrial biodiversity, as well as on adaptation to climate change.
- Social Justice and Citizenship: Strengthening the institutional capacities of local NGOs, promoting transparency and social inclusion.

How to Structure a Letter of Interest
The application process begins in a simplified manner. Interested organisations must submit a Letter of Interest (Letter of Enquiry), where they summarise:
- The organisation’s mission and track record in Cape Verde;
- The social or environmental problem that the project aims to address;
- The main activities, the direct beneficiaries and the expected outcomes;
- The estimated total budget and the planned implementation period.
Shortlisted proposals will subsequently be invited to submit a full detailed project proposal. Preference will be given to organisations that demonstrate transparent management, strong engagement with local communities and long-term sustainability.
