Strengthening Democracy in Cape Verde: Electoral Research Supported by TREES – EGAP Small Grants
A electoral research It is a fundamental pillar for safeguarding the integrity and legitimacy of democratic processes, and in Cape Verde, its promotion is of crucial importance. In this context, the TREES (Transatlantic Election Support) – EGAP (Electoral Integrity Group) programme is launching a call for proposals for its Small Grants, with the aim of providing financial support to researchers, academics and civil society organisations dedicated to furthering knowledge and identifying challenges and solutions in the field of elections.
This financial support programme, with its small grants, aims to catalyse high-quality research that can inform public policy, strengthen trust in democratic institutions and, ultimately, contribute to more transparent, fair and inclusive elections in Cape Verde. The eligible areas of research are diverse and range from analysing the effectiveness of mechanisms for monitoring and resolving electoral disputes, through to studying the impact of new technologies on voter participation and the security of the vote, to research into disinformation and how to combat it, as well as the evaluation of campaign financing practices.
The primary aim of these small grants is to democratise access to funding for electoral research, enabling a wider range of stakeholders to contribute to a robust body of knowledge. The aim of this initiative is to foster a vibrant research ecosystem in Cape Verde, capable of proactively identifying areas for improvement and proposing innovative, evidence-based solutions to the challenges facing democracy.
We believe that by investing in independent research focused on the specific characteristics of the Cape Verdean context, we can build a stronger and more resilient electoral future for the country. EGAP, with the support of TREES, reaffirms its commitment to democratic excellence and invites all interested parties to submit innovative proposals.
