Journalism fellowship on the future of work (USA)
The future of work is a constantly evolving landscape, shaped by technological advances, demographic shifts and new economic dynamics. To understand and communicate these transformations effectively, it is essential to support investigative and quality journalism. It is against this backdrop that this initiative has been launched, offering Cape Verdean journalists a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the trends that are redefining labour markets, with a particular focus on the situation in the United States of America, one of the driving forces behind many of these global changes.
This fellowship is aimed at journalists who demonstrate a strong interest and ability to investigate and report on the impacts of automation, artificial intelligence, remote working, new collaborative economies and the emerging skills needed to adapt to these new realities. The aim is to enable recipients to produce in-depth and insightful reports that inform the Cape Verdean public about the challenges and opportunities presented by the future of work, both nationally and internationally. Through this immersive experience in the US, journalists will have access to experts, research institutions and practical examples, broadening their perspective and enabling them to create content of high news value.
The selected projects should address issues relevant to Cape Verde, exploring parallels, differences and potential lessons to be learnt from the American experience. We are looking for innovative proposals that shed new light on how the islands can best prepare for the coming years, ensuring that their workforce and economy remain competitive and resilient. The programme encourages collaboration and the exchange of experiences, fostering a network of journalists interested in this vital topic.
The grant covers travel, accommodation and visa costs, as well as a sum to cover research and content production costs. The application period is open until 24 September 2026.
