All funded projects will be coordinated by experienced non-profit NGOs and implemented in cooperation with local communities, businesses, and other relevant stakeholders.

Information on financing
  • First-time applicants may receive grants ranging from €15,000 to €40,000 per project. For organizations that received grants from the EKOenergia Climate Fund in 2022 or 2023, the grant amount may be up to €60,000.
Election criteria
  • They strongly encourage proposals for projects located in Malaysia , South Africa e India This is because there is a growing interest among EKOenergia consumers in supporting initiatives in these regions.
  • The following selection criteria for EKOenergia's Climate Fund projects ensure that short-term projects selected through open calls align with EKOenergia's mission and have a positive and sustainable impact:
    • Non-profit statute:  They primarily accept applications from NGOs, but also consider applications from other non-profit entities, provided they are dedicated to environmental and social impact and meet other criteria.
    • Organizational Capacity: Leading applicant organizations must demonstrate that they possess the necessary capacity and a track record of successfully completing projects of similar scale. They prioritize organizations with a proven track record of success, as indicated by references.
    • Alignment with strategic objectives: The proposed projects must be aligned with the objectives of the applicant organization.
    • Community involvement: The lead candidate must have an established relationship with and in-depth knowledge of the community the project aims to benefit. Prior involvement in the project planning with the local community is a mandatory requirement to ensure the prioritization of community needs.
    • Inclusive Projects in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: Projects should benefit priority populations in low- or middle-income countries as defined by the World Bank. Selection of participants should be based on an assessment of genuine needs, strictly prohibiting discrimination to ensure a fair and inclusive approach.
    • Climate benefits: Projects must demonstrate clear climate benefits.
    • Environmental Responsibility and Inclusive Site Planning: Project activities, facilities, or other infrastructure must not impair the environment Local projects should not occur or be built on sensitive land (land with unclear tenure rights or identified as culturally sensitive or ecologically significant by community stakeholders). They do not fund projects that require the physical resettlement of people or property.
    • Defense of Principles Human Rights : All funded projects must be linked to human rights principles, ensuring ethical implementation. For example, projects are prohibited from involving child labor and must guarantee adequate remuneration for the work.
    • Funding allocation: Most of the funding is expected to be allocated to the construction of new renewable electricity facilities.
Ineligible
  • General and unlimited co-financing of larger projects where the exact objective of the grant is not clearly defined.
  • Research projects with a focus on research activities.
  • Events, workshops, networking, and campaigns that are not part of a project.
  • Individuals.
