The call for applications is now open for the ESG Student Innovation Challenge Africa 2026 for Students, a pioneering initiative aimed at catalysing innovative solutions to the pressing challenges facing Cape Verde and the entire African continent. This challenge is a platform dedicated to empowering talented young people to develop projects with a real impact, aligned with ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles, which promise to shape a more sustainable and equitable future for all. We firmly believe that students are the driving force behind the necessary transformations, and this programme offers them the tools, knowledge and support to enable their ideas to flourish and become concrete projects with long-term viability.
The main aim of the challenge is to stimulate critical thinking and creativity amongst university students and recent graduates, encouraging them to tackle crucial issues such as climate change, water resource management, clean energy production, social inclusion, gender equality, and good corporate and public governance. Proposals should demonstrate a thorough understanding of local challenges and present scalable, innovative and economically viable solutions, with a strong focus on sustainability. We are particularly interested in projects that promote the circular economy, the development of renewable energy tailored to Cape Verde’s specific circumstances, and initiatives that strengthen communities’ resilience to extreme weather events.
Taking part in the ESG Student Innovation Challenge Africa 2026 will open the door to a specialised mentoring network, comprising business leaders, academics, impact investors and sustainability experts. Selected students will have the opportunity to refine their projects through intensive workshops, personalised coaching sessions and a support ecosystem that will facilitate access to funding and strategic partnerships. The challenge will culminate in a grand final, where the most promising projects will be presented to a panel of internationally renowned judges, with prizes including seed funding for project implementation and incubation and acceleration opportunities.
We strongly encourage all students in Cape Verde who have a passion for innovation and a strong desire to contribute to sustainable development to submit their applications. This is a crucial moment to turn visions into reality and to position Cape Verde at the forefront of ESG innovation in Africa. We believe that the talent and determination of young Cape Verdeans are essential to tackling the challenges of the 21st century and building a future where economic progress goes hand in hand with environmental preservation and social wellbeing.
Applications are open until 16 July 2026.
