GRID-Arendal is offering grants for investigative journalism projects focussed on environmental crimes in developing countries. The journalism grants fund in-depth, investigative journalism that breaks new ground and reveals new information about environmental crimes that occur within or across developing countries.
Financing Information
- Four beneficiaries will each receive 25,000 Norwegian kroner (approximately 2,300 euros).
Eligibility criteria
- Applicants must be a professional journalist, either a member of staff at a media organisation or a freelancer with a record of publication work at respected outlets.
- Candidates must have experience in investigative journalism.
- Journalists from anywhere in the world are welcome to apply. The programme encourages applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds.
Application requirements
Applications must be submitted in full by midnight Central European Time (CET) on 22 January 2021. Applications must include:
- CV;
- 3-5 published work samples;
- Description of the proposed reporting project, including a plan for obtaining information and a summary of preliminary research or reports;
- Estimated budget for the project, explaining what the grant money would pay for;
- Estimated timeline for the project;
- Publication plan, ideally including a letter of commitment or letter of interest from a media outlet, and an indication of whether you would publish the project in any language other than English;
- Names and contact details for three professional references;
- Acknowledgement of any other donors or sources of funding for the project, if applicable;
- Instruction on how you would operate safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
