The Heinrich Böll Foundation is now accepting applications for scholarships in Cape Verde

The Heinrich Böll Foundation, recognised for its commitment to promoting democracy, human rights and environmental sustainability, has announced the launch of its scholarship programme, with a particular focus on applications from Cape Verde. This initiative aims to support talented and motivated students who demonstrate strong potential to contribute positively to Cape Verdean society and to address its specific challenges. The programme is aimed at students wishing to pursue undergraduate, master’s or doctoral studies at recognised higher education institutions, both in Cape Verde and abroad.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation’s scholarships focus on areas of study that align with its core values. Research and training in fields such as renewable energy, environmental management, sustainable development, the solidarity economy, social justice, human rights and gender studies are particularly encouraged. The foundation seeks individuals with a strong sense of social responsibility and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on their communities and the country as a whole. Applications will be assessed on the basis of academic merit, involvement in relevant social and political activities, and the demonstration of a clear vision for the future and for how the studies will contribute to solving pressing problems in Cape Verde.

In addition to financial support, Heinrich Böll Foundation scholarship holders benefit from a valuable network of contacts, which includes other students and researchers from different fields and countries, as well as activists and experts in various fields. They are also encouraged to take part in training and discussion events organised by the foundation and its partner organisations, with a view to deepening their knowledge and developing leadership and civic engagement skills. This holistic approach aims not only at the academic success of the recipients, but also at equipping them to become agents of change.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation firmly believes in the potential of Cape Verde and the talent of its young people. By investing in the education and development of these future leaders, the foundation aims to strengthen the country’s capacity to tackle economic, environmental and social challenges, and to build a fairer, more democratic and more sustainable future for all its citizens.

Applications for the Heinrich Böll Foundation scholarship are open until 1 September 2026.
