Projects should take advantage of these openings to contribute to the development of transformative policies, laws, models, narratives and norms that promote a just social organisation of care that includes paid and unpaid care work and centres the dignity, rights and agency of those providing and receiving care. Projects should be centred in and take place in Africa, Asia, Latin America and/or the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Objectives
  • In the long term, the aim is to build up a historically situated knowledge base and a diverse range of support and care systems in order to strengthen the capacity of policy-makers to respond in more specific ways to care needs. The RFP seeks to contribute to the advancement of three main objectives in the field:
    • Promote the importance and value of healthcare through investment, support and public provision, with primary responsibility for the state and co-sharing of responsibility by the third sector/community care and market institutions;
    • Changing systems, policies, regulations and models of care to focus on the well-being of all carers (regardless of their professional status), including increasing safety economic the protection and voice of workers in the definition of laws and regulations labour and to achieve economic justice; and

Information on financing
  • The SAGE Fund will make 8-12 grants of US$ 100,000 - US$ 150,000 each over 12-18 months to Global Majority organisations, movements, coalitions, cooperatives and trade unions to develop care strategies, agendas and movement building.
Geographical scope
  • Projects should be centred on and take place in the Global Majority regions - Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) - with a focus at local, national or regional level. Projects should demonstrate awareness of global and regional conversations, agreements, movements and opportunities, and may include activities and strategies that target strategic global processes but are not the main focus.
Election criteria
  • Civil society organisations movements, trade unions and cooperatives and/or with leadership in the Global Majority with a mission and programmes strongly aligned with the human rights , labour rights and justice gender and disability are invited to apply, including:
    • Movements (including social movements, labour movements, feminist movements, movements of affected communities, including People with Disabilities, young people and the elderly);
    • Civil society organisations (including NGOs);
    • Community organisations;
    • Workers' organisations (trade unions, federations, member-based organisations);
    • Organisations and movements led by migrants or founded by migrants in Global Majority countries;
    • Networks, coalitions and partnerships (preference will be given to those with strong Global Majority participation and leadership); and/or
    • Research centres or think tanks in the Global Majority with strong links to activist practice.
  • Partnerships: Proposals can be submitted by an individual organisation or movement or by two or more groups as project partners. International organisations or anchor NGOs from the Global North can participate as part of the project, but are not intended to receive the majority of the funds or lead the project strategy. Priority will be given to proposals from organisations that work closely with, or are led by, affected communities, workers and movements in the Global Majority.
  • Eligible organisations must :
    • Be a legally registered charity in the local country and have a bank account capable of receiving international wire transfers; or
    • Appoint a legally registered charity (or entity eligible to receive charitable funds) in the country that has a local bank account capable of receiving international bank transfers to serve as the project's fiscal agent.
  • Given the size of the grants on offer, all applicants must have the capacity to absorb and manage a project grant of US$ 100,000. Therefore, if an organisation applies alone, it must have an annual budget of 200,000 US dollars or more. If applying in partnership, the size and annual budgets of the partners may vary, but at least one of the partners must meet the minimum annual budget of 200,000 US dollars. The beneficiary partner must have the financial infrastructure and capacity to receive and manage US$ 100,000 on behalf of the other partners.
  • They cannot grant funding to organisations based in any of the following countries, nor can they support projects that conduct activities directly in these countries: Afghanistan , Belarus , Cuba , India , Iran , North Korea , Russia , Syria , Ukraine (Russian Occupied Territories), Yemen .
  • Language: Due to current staffing restrictions, concept notes must be submitted in English. Beneficiary organisations or partnerships can work in any language, but must have a partner or someone within the partnership who can communicate with the Fund in English. The Fund will provide interpretation for any calls or engagement with the full range of partners as necessary if the proposal progresses.
