AFS Global STEM Changemakers 2026 – 200 virtual scholarships (ages 15–20) is an initiative aimed at young people from Cape Verde who wish to deepen their knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics whilst developing leadership skills and making a social impact. The programme, run by AFS Intercultural Programs, offers a fully online course comprising interactive modules, collaborative projects and mentoring from international experts. Participants will have the opportunity to tackle real-world challenges linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, devising innovative solutions that can be implemented in their local communities.
The curriculum is structured around four main phases: an introduction to STEM concepts, the development of critical thinking skills, carrying out projects in multinational teams, and a final presentation of the results to a panel of experts. Each scholarship fully covers access to the learning platform, teaching materials and personalised support from volunteer tutors. In addition, successful candidates will receive an internationally recognised certificate of completion, which enhances the young people’s academic and professional profiles.
To be eligible, applicants must be aged between 15 and 20, live in Cape Verde, demonstrate a proven interest in STEM subjects and have access to a stable internet connection. The selection process places emphasis on personal motivation, the ability to work in a team and the proposal of a project that contributes to the sustainable development of the archipelago. Applications are open to everyone, regardless of educational background, provided they meet the above criteria.
Application deadline: 2 August 2026
