Deadline: 31 January 2024

Applications are now open for the ICLRS Young Scholars Fellowship on Religion and the Rule of Law 2024 . The Programme is designed primarily for early career academics interested in the field of religion and the rule of law from an international and human rights perspective.

The courses in this advanced certificate programme in religion and the rule of law prepare young academics to teach a course on law and religion from national, international and comparative perspectives. Each morning, participants attend two 90-minute lectures given by several distinguished scholars of law and religion, all recognised as leading experts in the field. These speakers - who come from diverse national, cultural, religious and/or professional backgrounds - discuss legal and religious topics from their unique perspectives. Morning classes feature lectures, Q&As, small group discussions and other pedagogical methods. By the end of the course, participants should feel prepared to teach a course on comparative and international law and religion, tailored to their respective localities.

Financial aid

  • Student grants are available for admitted students who would otherwise be unable to attend. The grants cover travel, accommodation, tuition fees and some food expenses.

  • Postgraduate students in the final stages of their doctoral dissertation or master's thesis (in a terminal master's programme) can apply, but their dissertation or thesis must be on a topic related to religion and the rule of law.
  • Applications are also welcome from individuals working for international organisations, religious and human rights NGOs or organisations involved in interfaith dialogue.

  • You must be fluent orally and demonstrate the ability to carry out written academic work in English. Finalists will take part in a Zoom interview, where their oral fluency will be assessed.
  • Students currently on undergraduate and JD programmes should not apply, but we would like you to introduce yourself and tell us about your future academic plans.

Application

  • The registration period starts on 1 December 2023 and ends on 31 January 2024.
  • The online writing tutorials start in April 2024.
  • The course starts in Oxford on 15 July and ends on 2 August 2024.
