The African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the AVoHC Kofi Annan Scholars – Africa CDC Financial Specialist 2026 programme. This initiative represents a key milestone in Africa CDC’s strategy to strengthen leadership and financial management capacities in its Member States, thereby boosting the resilience and effectiveness of public health responses across Africa. Cape Verde, with its strategic location and growing commitment to regional development, provides fertile ground for the application and dissemination of the knowledge gained through this prestigious programme.
The programme aims to train a new generation of African leaders with specialist financial skills, capable of managing resources allocated to public health efficiently and transparently. The selected scholars will have a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge in crucial areas such as budget planning, fund management, auditing, financial literacy and governance, tailored to the specific context of African public health organisations. The practical component, which will include involvement in Africa CDC projects and initiatives, will ensure that participants gain valuable experience and develop a strong network of contacts within the continent’s health ecosystem.
For Cape Verde, the participation of its staff in this programme is of the utmost importance. Improving financial skills at national level will enable a more strategic and effective allocation of resources, optimising investment in health systems, epidemiological surveillance and responses to health emergencies. The ability to manage funding transparently and responsibly is an essential pillar for the sustainability of health programmes and for attracting additional investment, both public and private. The presence of qualified financial experts in the country will strengthen confidence in the management of resources and contribute to the achievement of health-related Sustainable Development Goals.
Through this scholarship programme, Africa CDC reaffirms its commitment to empowering its Member States to tackle current and future health challenges. The AVoHC Kofi Annan Scholars – Africa CDC Financial Specialist 2026 programme is a robust platform for knowledge exchange, professional development and the building of a more prepared and resilient Africa in the face of threats to public health.
The deadline for applications is 3 August 2026.
