Every year, the Graduate Institute in Geneva invites policy and practice partners to bid for a group of first-year Master's students to carry out Applied Research Projects (ARPs) on their behalf. ARPs involve small groups of students working together to conduct policy-relevant research with partner organisations on issues related to international development and international relations.

Applied Research Projects (ARPs) are a key component of the MINT programme. ARPs involve small groups of students working together to conduct policy-relevant research with partner organisations on issues related to international development and international relations.

Through ARPs, students learn and apply analytical and research skills to practical, policy-relevant issues in international relations and development. Students work autonomously and professionally under the supervision of a team of professors from the Graduate Institute.

Throughout the ARP, students are expected to:

draw up the project's Terms of Reference and frame appropriate research questions;

conduct in-depth literature reviews and design relevant methodologies;

carry out original research;

analysing primary data;

draft preliminary and final analytical reports; and

present the final results of the research.

Teamwork, collaboration, professionalism, effective communication and problem-solving are crucial skills that the ARP process aims to teach students.

Eligibility

Organisations working on issues of global concern are invited to submit applications to sponsor an ARP.
