IOC Centre for Olympic Studies – 2027 Research Fellowship: An Opportunity for Cape Verdean Research

22 September 2026 is the deadline for submitting applications for the prestigious 2027 Research Fellowship offered by the Centre for Olympic Studies (CEO) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a golden opportunity for researchers from Cape Verde who wish to contribute to the vast field of Olympic studies. This annual IOC initiative aims to foster research in various areas related to the Olympic Games, the Olympic Movement and its ideals, thereby promoting the development of knowledge and the sharing of global perspectives.

For Cape Verde, this grant represents a strategic opportunity to put the island nation on the map of international sports research. Cape Verdean researchers have a unique opportunity to explore topics relevant to the country’s context, such as the impact of sport on social and economic development, the history of sport in Cape Verde, women’s participation in the Olympic Games, or even comparative studies on sports management in island states. The cultural diversity and resilience of the Cape Verdean people offer a wide range of innovative perspectives that can significantly enrich the field of Olympic research.

The benefits of this fellowship extend beyond direct financial support for research. Fellows have the opportunity to access a vast archive of resources from the IOC’s CEO, including historical documentation, publications and valuable data. Furthermore, the opportunity to join a global network of academics and professionals in the field of sport can open doors to future collaborations and exchanges. This experience will not only boost the researchers’ careers but also raise Cape Verde’s academic and scientific profile on the international stage.

We strongly encourage academics, PhD students and early-career researchers in Cape Verde to consider this opportunity. Your participation will not only bring you individual recognition, but will also contribute to the generation of knowledge that could influence sports policies and development programmes in Cape Verde. We believe that the Cape Verdean perspective is of inestimable value to the global understanding of the Olympic Movement.

The deadline for submitting applications is 22 September 2026.
