This programme aims to equip national research institutions with state-of-the-art technologies, specifically in the field of wildlife monitoring and study, a sector where a lack of resources has historically posed a significant obstacle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The island, with its priceless terrestrial and marine ecosystems, faces particular challenges in monitoring endemic and threatened species. Scientific research is essential for understanding population dynamics, migration patterns, environmental adaptations and the threats these species face. However, the acquisition and maintenance of modern equipment, such as high-precision GPS collars, monitoring cameras designed to withstand extreme conditions, drones for surveying remote areas and portable genetic analysis equipment, is often beyond the financial means of local institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O <strong>Holohil 2026 Programme<\/strong> It aims to address this gap by establishing a framework for direct support for the procurement of essential equipment. Priority will be given to proposals that demonstrate a clear impact on scientific research, the conservation of Cape Verdean biodiversity and the training of new researchers. We believe that by investing in technology, we are empowering Cape Verdean scientists to collect more robust data and develop more effective, evidence-based conservation strategies. This initiative represents a decisive step towards strengthening research capacity in Cape Verde and ensuring the protection of its natural heritage for future generations.
