Through this innovative program, we aim to empower Cape Verdean professionals with essential knowledge and tools to implement sustainable and ethical animal welfare practices. We believe that a strong commitment to animal welfare not only improves the quality of life of animals but also strengthens biodiversity, boosts tourism, and contributes to food security through more responsible livestock farming. This grant specifically aims to support the training of specialists in crucial areas such as preventive veterinary medicine, shelter management, zoonotic disease control, and community education on the humane treatment of animals. Participation in this program will allow fellows to bring back to Cape Verde new methodologies and a renewed vision, capable of generating a lasting impact on local communities and the country's economy.

This program was designed with the conviction that knowledge sharing and international collaboration are fundamental to addressing the global challenges of animal welfare. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to participate in excellent courses, practical workshops, and exchanges with renowned institutions in African countries and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The focus is on the practical application of acquired knowledge, with the requirement that fellows develop and present concrete projects adapted to the Cape Verdean reality after completing their training. These projects may range from improving the conditions of shelters for abandoned animals to implementing large-scale vaccination and sterilization programs, as well as raising public awareness about responsible pet ownership and the protection of wildlife species. We believe that this investment in the training of specialized human capital is a decisive step in positioning Cape Verde as a leading country in animal welfare practices in the region.

By investing in training and professional development in the field of animal welfare, the Scholarship Program for Animal Welfare – Africa and LAC This program also aims to promote scientific research and innovation in Cape Verde. We encourage applications from individuals with backgrounds in veterinary medicine, biology, agronomy, environmental sciences, and related fields, as well as professionals who work directly with animals in NGOs, government institutions, and the private sector. We believe that the diversity of applicants' backgrounds will enrich the learning experience and foster the creation of robust collaborative networks. The impact of this program will extend beyond the selected individuals, indirectly benefiting communities, contributing to public health, and preserving Cape Verde's natural heritage.

Applications for the Scholarship Program for Animal Welfare – Africa and LAC They are open until 22-06-2026.

For more information and to submit your application, please visit: https://www.animal-kind.org/grant-program-2025

Animal welfare scholarships are a unique opportunity for Cape Verde, empowering professionals for a more responsible and prosperous future.
