Therefore, funded projects should include components of environmental education, capacity building, and community engagement, ensuring that the benefits of conservation are shared and sustained in the long term. The “Ceiba Seeds of Sustainability” initiative seeks to foster a legacy of ecological resilience and social prosperity in Cape Verde, strengthening local capacity to address climate change and protect natural heritage for future generations. Project selection will be based on originality, feasibility, and potential impact, as well as the demonstrated ability of the proposing teams to achieve the established objectives.

Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals addressing critical areas such as the conservation of endangered endemic species, the protection of coastal and marine areas vulnerable to erosion and sea-level rise, and the promotion of sustainable economic activities such as responsible ecotourism and resilient agriculture. Examples of projects could include the reintroduction of keystone species, the creation of community-managed marine protected areas, or the implementation of agroforestry systems that improve soil health and biodiversity. The program is open to collaboration between different actors, including academic and governmental institutions and the private sector, encouraging strategic partnerships that maximize the results and sustainability of the proposed actions.

Applications will be evaluated by a jury specializing in conservation and sustainable development.
