To all the boys and girls who were forced to leave their homeland and adapt to a culture that receives them with strangeness, I hear you and understand you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fate of the Cape Verdean has always been to survive in a dry land or to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by the migrant spirit of our people and by recent international events, I reflect on our world and my personal belief that our differences have greatly contributed to human evolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I lived in Portugal at a time when people said racism didn't exist. But it was there\u2014silent, structural\u2014acting like a shadow in every space where there is no representation. I realized how important role models and references are in encouraging young people to have the confidence to simply dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exclusion becomes evident where women, people of different ethnicities or cultures, people with different types of disabilities, or sexual orientations are absent. They are not included in decisions and become invisible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The danger of invisibility is the creation of a reality in which many of us simply do not exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In leadership positions where many women are not represented, we face the danger of environments designed solely for male performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where we don't find the participation of people with different cultural backgrounds, we create a world with the vision of Western man, which is not applicable to different religious contexts, beliefs, habits, or sexual preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we design a building intended only for those without limitations in mobility, vision, hearing, or other areas, we are implicitly deciding who can enter and who stays outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are just a few examples that show us how many people end up not being taken into account in the development process when it is not inclusive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social entrepreneurship operates within these realities, a type of business philosophy that prioritizes solving social problems where collective well-being is the true currency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social innovation is the tool that social entrepreneurs use to transform a problem into a business. This allows companies or organizations to reach a new level, not only in meeting the needs of their customers, but also in solving their challenges as human beings, creating a real impact on their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the concept of evolution existed for the business world in the same way it applies to human evolution, we could say that social entrepreneurship is indeed the next step in business innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The truth is that it is our differences that lead us to question the world from multiple perspectives \u2014 of gender, culture, and the very limitations we carry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
