In addition, the organisations will be assisted wherever possible and necessary by GIZ in expanding their networks and integrating their activities into national policy objectives.

Funding Areas

Project proposals must clearly address one of the IKI's funding areas (although in some cases project concepts may include more than one funding area):

Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions;

Adapting to the impacts of climate change;

Conservation of natural carbon sinks / REDD+;

Conserving biological diversity.

Financing information

The iki Small Grants scheme will generally select project proposals with a total funding volume of between 60,000 and 100,000 euros, but with the following exceptions:

Projects in the area of climate change mitigation can submit proposals with a total funding volume of up to 200,000 euros if the construction of specific mitigation facilities is an integral part of the project concept (such as solar panels or wind turbines), which requires a larger financial input. Through this, IKI Small Grants aims to strike a better balance between the construction of facilities and capacity-building measures.

In specific and very well-founded cases, projects in the field of adaptation to climate change can also apply for funding of up to 200,000 euros on the same grounds as above (e.g. irrigation systems).

Proposals with financial requests above or below the above amounts will not be considered.

What does IKI Small Grants offer?

IKI Small Grants promote the capacity development of successful applicants by funding self-organised training measures and providing support and advice through local GIZ offices in the partner countries. IKI Small Grant offers:

Methodological support for networking and advocacy work and access to networks in the respective countries.

Personalised support and advice for the applicant through jointly developed capacity-building measures.
