Registration is now open for the Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards 2024 . With the Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards, the Global Solutions Initiative aims to identify, recognise and reward young change agents from around the world who actively contribute to a better alignment - a "recoupling" - of economic prosperity with environmental sustainability and the needs and demands of societies, communities and individuals.
The award seeks to recognise concrete practices and impactful youth-led projects and initiatives that drive change on the ground, while serving as examples and inspiration beyond their immediate impact. Projects can be social enterprises as well as non-profit initiatives led by young people.
Categories
- Reimagine Business Award : Business and commercial activities can drive economic growth, provide job opportunities and stimulate innovation. At the same time, many current business practices lead to excessive waste production, contribute to the depletion of natural resources, exacerbate climate degradation and perpetuate poor working conditions. They are looking for companies and social enterprises that have implemented a business model that promotes social prosperity and environmental objectives.
- Reimagining Social and Climate Action: Many disadvantaged individuals and groups around the world face significant challenges in accessing basic services such as healthcare, food, housing or education. At the same time, environmental crises such as climate change, environmental pollution and biodiversity loss are accelerating - threatening our natural environment and exacerbating social imbalances. They are looking for projects that directly support societies affected by systemic inequalities or climate degradation.
- Reimagining Civic Engagement Award: Around the world, citizens' trust in government, administration and public institutions is waning - populism and nationalism are on the rise. At the same time, they witness a lack of transparency and accountability on the part of decision-makers and a lack of opportunities for citizens and civil society to get involved and actively participate in important decisions that affect their lives. They are looking for projects that directly support the transfer of power so that citizens can get involved in the civic space.
Scholarships
They are offering a full scholarship for the finalists of the Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards 2024 to come to Berlin and take part in the 2024 Global Solutions Summit.
The grant includes the following:
- Travelling expenses to and from Berlin;
- Accommodation for the duration of the Global Solutions Summit (five nights, 3 to 8 May 2024);
- Free entry to the Global Solutions Summit 2024;
- Networking opportunities with great minds from academia, business, politics and civil society;
- Access to an exclusive global network of like-minded Young Global Changers;
- Possibilities for greater involvement.
Eligibility
- Only individuals can register. You cannot register as an organisation, only as its representative.
- Participants must have a leadership position in the project or initiative they are applying for. (This could be the founder, co-founder, project leader, initiator or a similar role.)
- Participants must have a strong enough command of the English language to present their work in front of a jury and an audience, and to take part in group conversations.
- The Young Global Changers programme aims to empower young people. Candidates should preferably be aged between 18 and 35.
- Applicants must demonstrate motivation to become active members of a global network that aims to bring about lasting global change.
The following criteria must be met by all projects in order to be eligible, regardless of the category in which they apply.
- Re-coupling The project, business or initiative you are applying for needs to have the aim of re-coupling, i.e. better aligning economic or political activities with social well-being and environmental sustainability. This means putting people's needs and environmental sustainability at the centre of economic and/or political activities.
- Organisational Internship: The project or initiative must be beyond the idea stage. It must be currently active and underway.
