The Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) Programme 2024 is now open for applications. Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is an academic exploratory programme that brings together high school students from around the world to facilitate discussion on cutting-edge topics in academia.
Yale Young Global Scholars is one of the most exciting two-week academic summer programmes in the world. At YYGS, students participate in sessions based on their academic interests, while making friends with peers from all over the world during the programme's interactive activities.
Each summer, students from more than 150 countries (including all 50 US states) take part in a two-week interdisciplinary session on Yale's historic campus. Immerse yourself in a global learning community at Yale University. Join YYGS and interact with Yale professors and instructors and learn global perspectives from international peers.
Here's what you need to know:
- Students meet colleagues from more than 150 countries and all 50 US states and participate in classroom research where students offer global perspectives.
- They provide more than US$ 3 million in need-based financial aid and scholarships, offered as discounts of up to 100% off tuition fees.
- Candidates are encouraged to apply by the Early Action deadline for a discounted enrolment fee. If the fee represents a financial burden, students can submit a tax exemption to reduce their enrolment fee to US$ 0.

Thanks to generous donors, YYGS is able to offer a limited number of scholarships | These are need-based financial aid packages that cover almost the entire cost of the course (with a contribution of US$ 50 from the family, if possible).
Serving more than 2,000 students from over 150 countries (and 50 US states), YYGS distributes more than US$ 3 million in need-based financial aid to domestic and international students.
Yale Scholarships will be awarded to selected students who completed the YYAS programme in any summer before 2024. The scholarship covers full tuition and travel costs for students to attend any of the YYGS sessions offered in 2024.- Scholarships Study for Young Leaders (YL) Scholarships
YLs will be awarded to selected students in the USA and internationally who identify as at least ONE of the following:- Black or African-American (including Africa and the Caribbean)
- Hispanic and/or Latino/Latina/Latinx
- Members of indigenous peoples, nations and/or communities
- Refugees*
A grant covers the full cost of tuition and travel for students attending any of the YYGS sessions offered in 2024.
* A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee their country because of persecution, war or violence. A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a particular social group.
Eligibility
YYGS accepts applications from ALL countries and offers the opportunity for students to apply for need-based financial aid for students from ALL countries.
- Be at least 16 years old by 21 July 2024 (first day of Session III).
- Be able to participate in an English-based academic curriculum.
- You must be a high school or secondary school student (or the international equivalent).
- Be graduating in May/June 2025 or 2026 in the Northern Hemisphere, or in November/December 2024 or 2025 in the Southern Hemisphere.
- Be a first-time YYGS participant. If you took part in a YYGS session during a previous summer (2023 and earlier), then you are not eligible to take part during YYGS 2024.
Note: If you previously applied for YYGS, but it wasn't offered or couldn't happen AND you meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above, then you are encouraged to apply again for YYGS 2024.
Application
All students must submit the following enrolment components:
- List of activities
- A 400-word essay and a 200-word answer
- Two "fast take" answers (280 characters each)
- Official school transcripts
- One Recommender (who will fill in the YYGS* Recommendation Form ONLY)
- Application fee** ($70 for Early Action and $85 for Regular Decision)
- You must click on the Submit Application button on the "Review" page for your application to be considered.
- OPTIONAL: scores on English fluency tests (TOEFL or DuoLingo)***
- OPTIONAL: Need-based financial aid****
Fee exemption
YYGS will waive the enrolment fee if it constitutes a significant financial burden for the student's family. The link to the Tax Exemption Request Form is available on the "Payment Options" page in the YYGS application.but it will only appear there AFTER students have fully completed the "Financial Aid" page in the YYGS app (as it is only available for those applying for need-based financial aid). Students requesting a fee waiver should ask a school official to finalise the form.
