The US-West Africa Technology Challenge aims to promote the development of promising technologies that offer innovative solutions to help expose, understand or counter disinformation, propaganda and violent extremism in Coastal West Africa.

They invite technologists from across Africa to submit an application to present their solutions to these challenges to an audience of stakeholders from government, civil society and the private sector. Up to eight organisations will be selected to demonstrate their technology to a panel of judges.

The US-West Africa Technology Challenge will be held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from 27 to 28 September 2023, as a two-part event. The first part will consist of the demonstration day with the selected technologists; the second part will feature panels and discussions between technologists, government officials, civil society, academia and the media to share lessons learnt and opportunities for cooperation around tackling the challenges.

The winning solutions will be used for the benefit of the countries of Coastal West Africa, but this Call for Submissions is open to organisations domiciled and based throughout Africa, not just those based in Coastal West Africa.

The US-West Africa Technology Challenge is sponsored by the US Department of State's Center for Global Engagement, in collaboration with the US Embassy in Abidjan, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy of Côte d'Ivoire, and the United Nations Development Programme, She Code Africa, Impact Hub Abidjan and Becera.
