Rugby Africa ( www.RugbyAfrique.com ), the continental governing body for rugby in Africa, presents the Women's Leadership and Management training programme. The programme will feature a dynamic programme of presentations, workshops, expert testimonies and case studies.
According to World Rugby, the online training programme has been developed to empower rugby union volunteers and staff with essential management skills. The participants, who have been identified as potential future leaders in the sport, will take part in rigorous training sessions held over a period of 10 months, with two training days every three weeks.
In collaboration, the Association of Executive Masters in Sports Organisation Management (MEMOS) and the International University of Health, Exercise and Sport (LUNEX) ( https://LUNEX.lu ) provide their expertise and support to ensure the success of the programme. Through the online platform provided by LUNEX, participants will have access to invaluable resources and advice to improve their leadership and management skills.
Rugby Africa and World Rugby are united in our vision to empower and uplift the women who will drive the growth and development of rugby in Africa
The initiative underlines Rugby Africa's commitment to developing rugby on the African continent, while strengthening women's capabilities in the sport. By providing participants with the opportunity to take part in management training and leadership development, Rugby Africa is actively working to promote inclusion and gender equality in rugby across Africa.
At the end of the Women's Leadership and Management training programme, the participants will design a women's rugby development project adapted to their environment and including all the elements necessary for its success. Three of the best projects will be selected in December 2024.
Herbert Mensah, President of Rugby Africa : " Rugby Africa and World Rugby are united in our vision to empower and elevate the women who will drive the growth and development of rugby in Africa. We have developed a programme that encourages inclusion, ambition and leadership among women. "This signifies our continued commitment to building a future where all women thrive in sport, take on leadership roles with confidence and where their invaluable contributions are recognised and celebrated ."
Coralie Van Den Berg, Head of Regional Partnerships for Africa at World Rugby : " Accelerating the growth of women's rugby is a top priority for World Rugby. Our commitment to this cause is evident on the global stage, as demonstrated by the success of the 2021 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand and the launch of WXV, a global women's competition. However, World Rugby recognises the need for more efforts off the field to promote women in leadership positions and boost the growth of girls and women in the sport. Rugby Africa's sports leadership and management training programme, in partnership with LUNEX, is a pioneering initiative that we are proud to support. This programme will enable talented women to contribute to the sustainable development of sport in Africa ."
Maha Zaoui, head of women's rugby at Rugby Africa : " As programme director and head of women's rugby at Rugby Africa, I am convinced that this programme not only enables women to excel in leadership roles within the sport, but also serves to stimulate the growth and advancement of rugby in Africa. By equipping women with the necessary skills and opportunities, we are carving out a legacy of excellence, ensuring that sport in Africa is truly inclusive for generations to come ."
Paula Lanco, Executive Member of Rugby Africa and Chair of the Women's Rugby Advisory Committee (WRAC): " Empowering women in leadership positions not only strengthens teams, but also serves as a source of inspiration for girls and women aspiring to enter the world of rugby. By encouraging a culture of inclusion and mentorship, we ensure that young women across Africa know they have a place in the rugby community, with full access to the tools and guidance they need. ."
