TVET UNESCO-UNEVOC 2026 Leadership Programme for EFTP Leaders: Empowering for the Sustainable Development of Cape Verde
TVET UNESCO-UNEVOC 2026 Leadership Programme for EFTP Leaders This represents a unique opportunity to strengthen technical and vocational education in Cape Verde. This global initiative aims to train a new generation of leaders committed to modernizing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TTE), aligning it with labor market needs and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For the archipelago, this program emerges as a strategic boost to drive economic competitiveness and reduce social disparities.
The Importance of EFTP in the National Context
Cape Verde faces significant challenges in the qualification of young people and adults, especially in priority sectors such as tourism, renewable energy, and the blue economy. The youth unemployment rate (above 201% of the population) and the disconnect between the skills taught and the demands of the market highlight the urgent need to invest in rigorous technical training. The EFTP (Vocational Training and Vocational Education) program not only prepares qualified professionals but also fosters an entrepreneurial spirit, essential for the country's economic diversification.
Objectives and Benefits of the UNESCO-UNEVOC Programme
The 2026 Leadership Program will offer participants comprehensive training based on three pillars:
- Development of Management SkillsHow to create and manage innovative vocational training centers adapted to local realities.
- Pedagogical InnovationIntegration of digital technologies and practical teaching methodologies.
- Transformational LeadershipCapacity building to influence public policies and establish partnerships with the private sector.
The selected leaders will have access to a global network of experts, internships at leading institutions, and technical support to implement pilot projects in Cape Verde.
Why should Cape Verde participate?
The country has already demonstrated its commitment to the 2030 Agenda, notably through the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development (PEDS). However, the lack of qualified personnel in technical areas limits inclusive growth. This program will enable:
- Strengthening EFTP institutions places like the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).
- Promoting gender equality, encouraging female participation in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
- Attracting foreign investment, by ensuring a skilled workforce.
