Nigeria faces a high rate of youth unemployment, amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic and its socio-economic impacts. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, more than 40% of the working age group in the Federal Capital Territory is unemployed. This number is said to have increased since the economy went into recession in early 2023 and the serious consequences of the naira policy and the removal of fuel subsidies in 2023. These represent a serious challenge to the development and well-being of young people in Nigeria and, more importantly, young women and girls.

Similar to this, Nigeria has been facing food shortages and critical challenges in national food production. These challenges are linked to the high level of insecurity, high inflation and the inability of young people to engage in agriculture productively.

Phase 1 of this project will train 20 young people who have experience or are in agroecology and need more knowledge and access to resources, and phase 2 training will take place soon afterwards, and will also train 20 young people. Priority will be given to the SPA II project communities in the FCT, such as Dukpa, New Jerusalem, Garki Village, Kabusa, Bwari and Waru, however, young people from different communities in the FCT are encouraged to apply and will be considered.

YouthHubAfrica (YHA) is working with the support of ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) under the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA II) project to implement the first phase of the Youth Green Ventures Programme (YGVP) for young people in the FCT. The Youth Green Ventures Programme is a 3-day physical training to improve young people's skills in agroecology, providing them with the knowledge and resources they need to access and succeed in the area of climate-smart agriculture.

NOTE : This form closes on 24 July, however this form can be closed before the designated closing date once we have obtained the required number of participants.
