Applications are now open for the Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme (AKF ISP) 2024-2025 . The programme is an opportunity for outstanding academics from selected countries, who have no other means of financing their studies, to pursue postgraduate education. Established in 1969 by His Highness the Aga Khan, the AKF ISP has supported more than 1,000 students to date.

AKF ISP awards are structured as half grant and half loan - where 50 per cent of the value of the award must be repaid. Master's scholarships are awarded for the duration of the degree course. For doctoral students, grants are awarded for the first two years, after which you are expected to find funding from alternative sources.

Prize

  • The award covers your tuition fees and living expenses. It does not cover international travel, clothing, furniture or living expenses for family members.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an AKF ISP award, you must:

  • have an excellent academic record;
  • have a degree or equivalent professional training/experience;
  • demonstrate genuine financial need**;
  • build a careful, reliable and multi-source financing plan**;
  • be admitted to a reputable postgraduate institution***; and
  • have strong leadership potential, professional experience, extracurricular and/or entrepreneurial achievements and voluntary contributions.

Note: preference is given to young professionals under the age of 30.

Application

Applications are handled by the local units of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) or the Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB). Contact the appropriate organisation at country level to request an application form. For example, if you live in India, you should apply through the local office in India, or if you live in Kenya, you should apply through the local office in Kenya. Send your completed application to the agency where the ISP application form was obtained. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
