The ALF Euro-Mediterranean Programme for Young Professionals  This is a full-time professional experience designed for young early-career professionals who wish to expand their intercultural knowledge through dedicated work. The program aims to empower talented graduates under 30 years of age from the 43 countries of the Euro-Mediterranean region, providing them with firsthand professional experience in intercultural dialogue. Professionals also benefit by contributing to the Foundation's mission of promoting youth inclusion through empowerment and engagement, increasing their competitiveness in the job market.

What the program offers :

Successful candidates will begin their professional journey of up to 12 months at the ALF Secretariat in Alexandria, Egypt. During this time, they will:

Areas for young professionals   

The Euro-Mediterranean Programme for Young Professionals ALF 2024 offers young professionals the opportunity to gain one year of professional experience in one of the following five areas:

  • Public policies

Its objective is to facilitate and encourage the research community, policymakers, civil society organisations and institutions of EU and ALF Member States from different disciplines and sectors to collaborate, exchange ideas with the aim of creating and disseminating useful knowledge to promote sustainable transformations in interculturality, policies and public practices at the Euro-Mediterranean level with human-centered approaches.

  • Civil society

It is dedicated to actively developing exchanges and interactions between the ALF Secretariat and the Heads and grassroots members of the ALF Civil Society Networks, and to providing structured support for carrying out activities and tasks with the aim of fostering cohesion, engaging and mobilizing them for the development of intercultural dialogue activities at the national and regional levels. It also manages training and mobility programs on a Euro-Mediterranean scale.

It plays an essential role in increasing the visibility of the Foundation's work. By targeting the following aspects  communication Internally and externally, it ensures that ALF's institutional bodies, its members, and the general public are kept informed and involved. Its added value lies in its four main communication tools: the ALF website, social media outreach, monthly newsletters, and the Resource Center for Intercultural Dialogue.

  • Quality control

It is a key factor in improving performance, establishing successful implementation, demonstrating the impact of activities, and communicating results to stakeholders, including donors. It adopts an evidence-based approach through the collection of quantitative and qualitative data that goes beyond mere monitoring to ensure continuous improvements in ALF programming, enhancing the overall efficiency of the system.

  • Fundraising and institutional partnerships

This is a crucial aspect of ALF's current strategy for diversifying funding sources, as it involves identifying potential funding sources, conceptualizing and developing project proposals and frameworks, and identifying suitable partners for joint implementation. It complements the Foundation's structural action in specific areas where the Foundation has particular added value, both in terms of methodologies and strategic alliances.

Young professionals will be invited to choose two of the areas detailed above in order of preference and will be assigned to ALF Units according to their previous experience and motivation, depending on the specific needs of the ALF Secretariat.

Start date, duration, and location of the work.

The estimated start date of the contract is September 1, 2024, and it will last for 12 months, ending on August 31, 2025. During this time, the selected young professionals will carry out their responsibilities in Alexandria, Egypt, from the Foundation's facilities.

Election criteria

The criteria that will be taken into consideration in the selection process are as follows:

  • Age  Candidates must be under 30 years of age on the contract start date (September 1, 2024).
  • Nationality  Candidates must be nationals of one of the 43 member states of the Union for the Mediterranean.  43 member states of the Union for the Mediterranean
  • Bachelor's degree  in an area relevant to the chosen areas
  • Master  in an area relevant to the chosen areas
  • Knowledge of English (excellent)  communication skills written and oral  at least  level C1 )
  • Proven experience  in the area chosen

The selected young professionals will be allocated to different areas according to their fields of study, prior experience, and motivation, based on the specific needs of the ALF Secretariat, regardless of whether they chose their first or second option. There is also the possibility of rotation or assignment to other areas subject to the needs of the ALF Secretariat.
