Deadline: 01-jun-2024

The Turtle Conservation Fund is currently accepting applications for its grant programme, which focuses on endangered turtles and freshwater turtles.

Funding priority is given to projects that focus on turtles or freshwater turtles that are already highly threatened according to the IUCN Red List or the TFTSG Provisional Red List, as Critically Endangered or Endangered, or that may be highly threatened but not yet officially classified as such on the Red List. They do not support work with sea turtles.

The prizes are awarded to organisations or individuals for specific conservation or research projects dealing with turtles or highly endangered freshwater turtles, but not marine turtles, with partial or full support as funding allows.

TCF provides grants to support direct expenses for research and conservation of selected turtle projects and programmes. TCF does not provide support for indirect organisational overheads associated with grant administration and will not fund requests for such indirect costs.

TCF awards are roughly in the range of US$ 1,000 to US$ 5,000 per project (fully or partially funded, depending on total project costs), and smaller seed grant projects are also encouraged (up to US$ 1,000 each) to support pilot conservation initiatives for turtle and freshwater turtle species. that are currently on the IUCN Red List as Critically Endangered or Endangered, or species that could become priority species with an increase in the state of knowledge about the status of their populations or the threats they currently face (mainly species currently classified on the Data Deficient Red List or not yet assessed.

Award winners enter into a contractual agreement with Re:wild (formerly Global Wildlife Conservation) or the Chelonian Research Foundation to produce the proposed work (these non-profit organisations serve as TCF's umbrella funding organisations). Award winners are also encouraged to publish at least partial results of the supported research in the international scientific journal on turtles, Chelonian Conservation and Biology, published by the Chelonian Research Foundation.
