Applications are now open for the Stigler Center Journalist in Residence Programme 2025 . With the aim of shaping the next generation of leaders in business reporting, they launched the Stigler Center's Resident Journalists Programme in 2017. The programme provides a transformative learning experience for journalists working in all forms of media around the world.

Participants spend approximately 12 weeks at the Stigler Center's Hyde Park campus, attending classes, participating in Stigler Center events, collaborating with colleagues and networking with the university's academics. Journalists with a few years of media experience, proficient English and an interest in deepening their knowledge and understanding of political economy are encouraged to apply.Benefits

The programme offers exclusive seminars, opportunities to study with world-class professors and the chance to interact with colleagues from all over the world. Details include:

  • Reimbursement of economy class airfare to/from Chicago and SEVIS and visa application fees
  • A grant of US$ 14,000 to cover living expenses during the 12-week programme
  • Business fundamentals training at Chicago Booth
  • Participation in seminars and workshops at Chicago Booth and throughout the university
  • An opportunity to write for the publication ProMarket
  • Opportunities to collaborate with teachers, students and other participants in the Booth programme
  • Designated study space
  • Certificate of participation upon successful completion of the programme

Eligibility

  • Open to journalists from all over the world;
  • Journalists with a few years of media experience, proficient English and an interest in deepening their knowledge and understanding of political economy are encouraged to apply.

Programme expectations

Programme participants are expected to:Audit three classes.

Attend and participate actively in class and complete all required readings and assignments.

Attend Stigler lectures, lunches and social events, as well as other events recommended by the centre.

Sign a letter of agreement with the centre to indicate that the guidelines and expectations of the programme are mutually agreed upon.

Application

To be considered for the programme, the following items must be submitted via the online application:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Personal statements describing interests and programme objectives
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Three news items published
    If the articles are not in English, a translation should be sent along with the original articles. For TV or radio journalists, include links to your video/audio files in a PDF or Word document along with transcripts in English.
  • (If applicable) Proof of English proficiency
    Non-native English speakers must submit proof of English proficiency (waived if the undergraduate or postgraduate degree was obtained at a college/university where English is the main language of instruction or in an English-speaking country).
    Examples of proof of English proficiency include: Certificates or standardised test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, Cambridge, Duolingo, etc.); Diploma or English equivalency certificate awarded by an accredited national educational institution; Work experience in an English-speaking office with a letter from the manager stating language skills

Applicants will be notified of the final decisions in December. The Spring 2025 programme will run from approximately 19 March to 31 May 2025.
