The UMAPS Programme brings early career professors from African universities to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Fellows are accompanied by a collaborating faculty member during their stay and have full access to University of Michigan (UM) resources to further their work on a research project, an academic degree, publications, funding proposals or other relevant activities. The programme supports the development of the next generation of African academics by integrating them into international academic networks, and promotes U-M's international commitment to research and teaching collaborations across a range of disciplines, from engineering to literature and economics.
Direct applications from teachers at colleges or universities in Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia.
Applicants from other African countries cannot apply directly to UMAPS, but must be nominated by a University of Michigan faculty member with whom they already have an established relationship.

Applicants will have the opportunity to indicate their preference for a specific cohort during the application process, but placement in a specific cohort (upon acceptance into the programme) is not guaranteed.
