Deadline: 5 February 2024
Registration for the International Court of Justice Fellowship Programme 2024 are now open. The Judicial Fellowship Programme, formerly known as the University Internship Programme, was created in 1999 to enable recent law graduates to gain professional experience working for the International Court of Justice. The programme aims to improve participants' understanding of public international law in practice and the Court's procedures by involving them directly in the Court's activities.
Judicial Fellows work full-time under the supervision of a Member of the Court, together with the Member's principal legal assistant. Fellows may conduct research and draft memoranda on questions of law or fact relating to cases pending before the Court, attend hearings and sessions, and perform any other duties that may be assigned to them by their respective judges.

- Candidates must demonstrate excellent results in their legal studies and an interest in public international law through their studies, publications and/or professional experience.

Only universities can nominate candidates. The Court does not accept applications from private individuals. Although it is possible to nominate a single candidate, the Court encourages universities to propose more than one candidate. The deadline for submitting nominations is 5 February 2024. All applications must be finalised by this deadline. The Court expects to make its final decision on the selection of candidates by April 2024. The selected candidates will be informed accordingly by the university that nominated them.
One pre-selection questionnaire The online application form must be completed by the nominated university. The university must also designate an authorised focal point through which all application materials will be sent.
After completing the pre-selection questionnaire, the following six documents must be sent to each candidate via the e-mail address of the university's authorised focal point, in the order below:
- Official letter of appointment from the university
- CIJ personal history form
- Reference letters
- Official academic records
- Writing sample
- Candidate profile summary table
Further application instructions, as well as the CIJ personal history form and the candidate profile summary table, will be included in the confirmation email sent to the authorised focal point after completing the pre-selection questionnaire.
