Registration for the Smithsonian Biodiversity Genomics Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2024/2025 are now open. The Smithsonian Institution (SI) postdoctoral fellowship in biodiversity genomics promotes collaborative research in these fields involving comparative genomic approaches, such as phylogenomics, population genomics, metagenomics or transcriptomics, and has a component involving significant bioinformatic analysis.
The Smithsonian's molecular research facilities are located at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute/National Zoological Park (SCBI/NZP), the Smithsonian Environmental Research Centre (SERC) and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). - The stipend for postdoctoral and senior fellows is US$ 62,000 per year (twelve months). Stipends are prorated for periods of less than twelve months.
- In addition to the scholarship, grants are available to help with the research-related expenses of the fellow and for temporary relocation to the Smithsonian. A maximum research grant of US$ 5,000 is available. The amount awarded will be determined on the basis of the budget and justification submitted by the applicant. The budget for the research grant should not include relocation costs to the Smithsonian, which is awarded separately. The Office of Academic Appointments and Internships cannot provide funds for travel or living expenses for dependents. All funds provided by Smithsonian fellowships, including stipends and allowances for research and travel, are subject to tax.
EligibilityApplicants must propose to carry out research in residence for a period of 12 to 24 months.
Applicants must have completed or be close to completing their doctorate. Applicants who have not completed their doctorate must provide proof of completion of the course before the start of the scholarship.
Applicants interested in conducting research at these facilities are strongly encouraged to contact potential advisors/hosts at any of the Smithsonian's various museums and research institutes prior to preparing and submitting a proposal.
