Registration is now open for the British Academy Visiting Fellowships Programme 2025 . The British Academy Visiting Fellowships programme offers outstanding academics based in any overseas country the opportunity to study at a UK higher education institution or other research institution. The programme is open to academics at any career stage and in any discipline of the humanities and social sciences.

Visiting fellowships illustrate the British Academy's deep and continuing commitment to international engagement. The aim of this programme is to ensure that the UK remains an attractive, welcoming and productive research environment for academics from all over the world. Through this programme, the Academy aims to:

  • Improve and build new links between academics from around the world and the UK;
  • Promote opportunities and encourage the development of new and future partnerships for collaborative research in the humanities and social sciences;
  • Enable academics from all over the world to carry out research and/or professional development with colleagues from the UK;
  • And to strengthen the UK's research bases in the humanities and social sciences.

Financing

  • The maximum funding available is £40,000.

Eligibility

  • Visiting fellows must be at post-doctoral level or above, or have equivalent research experience at the time of application. Applicants must be resident outside the UK at the time of application. Applicants may be on permanent or fixed-term contracts. Fixed-term contracts must not end before the end date of the Visiting Fellowship. Independent academics can also apply.
  • Applicants must demonstrate that they have been in contact with their UK host institution before applying. Please note that the British Academy cannot assist in locating or facilitating contact with a UK host institution.
  • The British Academy welcomes applications from a wide range of UK host institutions and would particularly encourage applications from historically and/or structurally disadvantaged groups, low-income countries and women researchers.

Application

The deadline for applications is 17:00 (GMT) on Wednesday 23 October 2024. Visiting fellowships are available for a period of 3 to 6 months. Applicants will be asked to provide their preferred start date for the fellowship during the spring and summer (March to August 2025).
