Applications for the World Bank Group Africa Fellowship Programme 2023/2024 . The programme is aimed at talented young African citizens who are completing or have recently completed their PhD in an area relevant to the work of the World Bank. The fellowship programme has been very successful since its inception, building a strong pipeline of young African talent interested in a career in development, international institutions, African governments, think tanks and academia.

The programme offers selected fellows a six-month assignment at WBG offices in Washington DC or in country offices to gain hands-on experience in WBG operations. This includes generating and disseminating knowledge, designing global and national policies and building institutions to achieve inclusive growth in developing countries. While benefiting from research and innovation in various sectors, fellows will also work on research, economic policy, technical assistance and lending operations that contribute to the World Bank's goals of eliminating poverty and increasing shared protection.

• Fellows are eligible to receive consultancy fees and return economy class air travel to Washington, DC or a WBG country office of their university or institution.

Eligibility

• The candidate must be a recent Ph.D. graduate (within three years of completion) or be enrolled in the final year of the doctoral programme.
• Have an excellent command of English, both written and verbal. 
• Possess strong quantitative and analytical skills. 
• Be under 32 years old by the end of the enrolment period.

Selection process

• Phase I:  A shortlist of candidates will be made available for recruitment at the different WBG units, depending on the candidates' specialisation. Candidates will be notified of the status of their application or whether or not they have been shortlisted.
• Phase II: The final list of fellows will be selected in consultation with the various units of the WBG. When the selection is finalised, all shortlisted candidates will be informed of their selection status. Successful candidates will be notified and, upon acceptance, hired as short-term consultants for six months from January 2024.
