FIG is recruiting an Investment Analyst to join the Investment and Portfolio Team, which originates, manages and monitors IFC's financial sector investments in Southern Africa. This position will be based in the Johannesburg office.
The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is one of IFC's core departments, responsible for a significant portion of IFC's turnover, profitability and development outreach, approximately 40%. FIG operates in a wide range of sub-sectors, including Microfinance, SMEs, Gender, Climate, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing, Distressed Assets and other areas, with investment and advisory services provided globally to IFC clients through IFC's global network. FIG has three main objectives: financial inclusion; serving the real economy; and mobilising third-party resources. The aim is to develop efficient financial systems that increase financial inclusion and drive economic growth in client countries and increase IFC's development impact.

- Fully understands the financial aspects of investment transactions, including how to conduct market analyses and determine the financial soundness of the company or project opportunity.
- Demonstrated ability in financial statement analysis, accounting, finance, financial modelling and comparable company analysis to support informed decision-making.
- Ability to analyse and synthesise debt price benchmarks and stock trading comparables.
- Basic understanding of how specific investment transactions in different industries and sectors impact economic, market and social development, and how to use mapping methodology to assess market conditions, gaps and business opportunities.
- Identify data collection needs to support financial impact assessment, operational, development and market information, as well as relevant ES&G issues. Co-ordinate with the client to obtain the necessary information.
- Demonstrates active listening skills, being attentive and listening to others in order to identify customer and stakeholder needs.
- Able to distil and summarise large amounts of information from various sources to prepare business documents and presentations.
- Able to write logically and comprehensively, but concisely.
- Able to use graphs and tables to present data effectively and creatively.
- Exceptional attention to detail and diligence.
Eligibility
- Degree or equivalent;
- 2 to 5 years' professional experience in a financial institution, particularly in investment projects;
- Ability to develop complex financial models;
- Strong interest in development finance and multicultural environments;
- Highly motivated, committed to the highest ethical standards, ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across borders;
- Strong knowledge of financial institutions and markets;
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills, including corporate finance;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
- Proficiency in French or Portuguese desirable.
