The JJ/WBGSP uses the following process to analyse eligible scholarship applications from citizens of developing countries, with the aim of identifying candidates with the greatest potential, after completing their postgraduate studies, to impact the development of their countries.
Two qualified assessors independently analyse each eligible application and rate the application on a scale of 1 to 10, taking into account four main factors and the degree of cohesion between them:
- Quality of Professional Experience (weight 30%)
- Quality of Professional Recommendations (weight 30%)
- Quality of Commitment to your Country of Origin (weight of 30%)
- Background to Education Quality (weight 10%)
The JJ/WBGSP Secretariat uses the average score of the two evaluators and the following criteria to select the finalists:
- Maintain a reasonably wide geographical distribution of premiums
- Maintain a reasonable distribution of prizes between genders
- Unusual circumstances/difficulties when assessing professional experience and other aspects of an application;
- Award scholarships to candidates who, on equal terms, have limited access to financial resources for postgraduate studies abroad.
