The Feminist Centre for Racial Justice's Activist in Residence (AiR) Programme: An Opportunity for Cape Verde

In pursuit of social and racial justice, the Resident Activist Programme (AiR) of the Feminist Centre for Racial Justice (CFJR) offers a unique platform for strengthening activism in Cape Verde. This programme, with its focus on promoting a more equitable society and combating inequalities, represents a crucial opportunity for the development and deepening of initiatives led by Cape Verdean activists. Through intense immersion in research, training and collaboration, AiR 2025 aims to boost the impact and sustainability of work in favour of social and racial justice in the archipelago.

AiR's central aim is to provide a supportive and empowering environment for activists working on various fronts, from the fight against structural racism, through the defence of women's rights, to the promotion of equal opportunities. The programme offers a residency of varying lengths in Cape Verde, allowing participants to immerse themselves in research projects, develop action strategies and establish collaborative networks with local and international organisations.

The structure of the programme is carefully designed to maximise impact and learning. Participants will have access to specialised mentoring, workshops focused on relevant topics (such as human rights, activist research methodologies, strategic communication and project funding), and the opportunity to take part in events and conferences, both in Cape Verde and internationally. This immersion will allow activists to hone their skills, broaden their knowledge and build a solid network of contacts, essential for the development of long-term projects with significant impact.

The selection process for AiR is competitive and aims to identify activists with a proven track record of commitment to social and racial justice in Cape Verde. Previous experience, clarity of objectives, ability to work as part of a team and the potential impact of the proposed project are assessed. The CFJR seeks to ensure a diversity of perspectives and experiences among participants in order to enrich the programme and promote constructive dialogue on the challenges facing Cape Verdean society.

The importance of AiR for Cape Verde lies in its valorisation of the knowledge and experience of local activists. By investing in capacity building and the creation of collaborative networks, the programme strengthens civil society's ability to respond to social challenges and promote positive change. AiR not only empowers activists, but also contributes to the creation of a sustainable and impactful culture of activism in the country.

In addition, the programme offers a unique opportunity to contextualise and adapt innovative solutions to Cape Verde's specific challenges. The exchange of experiences and in-depth knowledge of the local context are crucial to the effectiveness of actions. AiR creates a safe and favourable space for developing strategies that align with Cape Verde's needs and realities.

The CFJR, with its long experience in promoting racial and social justice, guarantees a robust methodology and close monitoring of each project, ensuring that the activities carried out are aligned with the programme's objectives and contribute to achieving the desired results.

The CFJR's Resident Activist Programme represents a strategic investment in Cape Verde's future. By supporting and strengthening activism, the programme contributes to building a more just, equitable and inclusive society.
