Deadline: 20 September 2024

Applications are now open for the Global Insurance Accelerator Programme 2025 . The Global Insurance Accelerator is a mentor-led business accelerator designed to promote innovation in the insurance sector. They cover early-stage companies that are building solutions that support the insurance industry. They provide seed funding, networking with their mentors, 100 days of ongoing support and a final presentation to a large audience of insurance professionals.

This is not a typical accelerator. Its investors are insurance companies and the mentors are mainly insurance professionals. Taking part in this programme is a highly strategic decision to find product-market fit and do customer discovery faster than you could on your own. They run a 100-day programme every year, from mid-January to the end of April, to align with the Global Insurance Symposium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Benefits

  • Investment
    • The GIA Fund, backed by insurance company investors, will make an equity-based investment of US$ 50,000, converting into 5% of the company in the form of a post-money SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity). Each selected company will receive the same standard investment terms and values. The final key terms of the investment will be communicated to all applicants before they agree to an interview with the selection committee in November. The terms are non-negotiable.
  • Mentoring
    • GIA's mentoring programme is their secret sauce and they're proud of it. It's proven that one of the most important aspects of their portfolio companies' success is the guidance and connections they'll receive from insurance industry experts.
    • Mentors are involved in almost every activity and session they offer their founders. Mentors raise their hand to help lead or co-lead workshops and panels, step in to help shape presentations for founders and also work closely with each founder on their business needs.
  • The phases of the 100-day programme
    • The hybrid programme will be conducted in person in Des Moines, Iowa (compulsory) for a total of 5.5 weeks and virtually for 9 weeks. Housing will be paid for during the 5.5 weeks in Des Moines. Each founder has the option of staying in Des Moines for the duration of the programme, but housing will not be paid for during the 9-week virtual period. They structure the almost 15-week accelerator programme in three phases to consciously support the acceleration of your startup during this period.

Eligibility

  • The typical profile of a company applying for the GIA accelerator programme includes:
    • Early-stage insurtech company (pre-seed to seed stage).
    • Solution focused on the insurance sector.
    • The US insurance industry is where you will start or expand your customer focus.
    • 1-2 founders who will roll up their sleeves for the immersive programme.
  • They take the "Global" in GIA seriously and have had five continents represented in their groups over the last nine years. They are looking for companies that have potential or current operations in the US on their roadmap, but you can come from anywhere.
