Registration is now open for o Prêmio da Academia Mundial de Ciências (TWAS) 2026 . Os Prémios TWAS (anteriormente denominados ‘Prémios TWAS’) são atribuídos a cientistas individuais de países em desenvolvimento em reconhecimento de uma contribuição notável para o conhecimento científico em nove campos das ciências e/ou para a aplicação da ciência e da tecnologia ao desenvolvimento sustentável.

Para cumprir a decisão do Conselho TWAS tomada em novembro de 2018, o ciclo dos Prémios TWAS será  a cada dois anos. Além disso, durante a reunião do Conselho do TWAS realizada em Hangzhou, China, em 11 de novembro de 2019, foi aprovado o pedido da UNESCO para alterar o termo ‘prêmio’ para ‘prêmio’ para todas as distinções existentes e novas do TWAS, exceto medalhas, e, portanto, este prêmio o esquema agora é chamado de ‘Prêmios TWAS’.

Prizes

• A TWAS oferece nove prêmios de US$ 10.000 cada (um valor reduzido foi decidido pelo Conselho da TWAS em dezembro de 2018 e depois revisado durante a reunião do Conselho realizada em Hangzhou, China, em 11 de novembro de 2019) nas seguintes áreas: Agricultura, Nutrição e Alimentação Ciências de Sistemas; Ciências Biológicas; Ciências Químicas; Ciências da Terra, Clima e Ambientais; Engenharia e Ciências da Computação; Ciências Matemáticas; Ciências Médicas e da Saúde; Física, Astronomia e Ciências Espaciais; Ciências Sociais.
• Cada prêmio é acompanhado de uma placa.
• Os prêmios geralmente são entregues em uma ocasião especial, muitas vezes coincidindo com a Assembleia Geral da TWAS.

Eligibility

• Os candidatos ao Prêmio TWAS devem ser cientistas que tenham trabalhado e vivido em um país em desenvolvimento por pelo menos dez anos imediatamente antes de sua nomeação. Eles devem atender pelo menos uma das seguintes qualificações:
  • Realização da pesquisa científica de grande importância para o desenvolvimento do pensamento científico.
  • Contribuição notável para a aplicação da ciência e tecnologia ao desenvolvimento sustentável.
• Os membros do TWAS não são elegíveis para prêmios TWAS.
• Não serão consideradas nomeações de membros do júri nas disciplinas científicas em que atuam como membros do Comitê de Especialistas Independentes.
• Self-nominations will not be considered.

• Statement of support that should carefully explain the work carried out by the nominee, its significance and justification for its exceptional nature. The outstanding contribution can be defined in relation to the existing opportunities and realistic possibilities available to the candidate. This applies particularly to candidates from scientifically disadvantaged countries
• Biographical sketch of the nominee in NARRATIVE style. Information on any time spent outside the country of origin in the last ten years must be provided clearly.
• Degrees obtained
• Professional commitments
• Brief information on participation in gyms and societies
• Brief information on awards and honours received
• List of the 12 most significant publications listed in an internationally acceptable format.
• Google Scholar h-index and number of citations
• Contact details (especially e-mail addresses) of five arbitrators covering a wide geographical distribution, with whom TWAS can contact about the nominee's work. It should be noted that arbitrators' reports can only be submitted via the online platform. In particular, arbitrators will be contacted by TWAS via the e-mail address entered on the nomination form. Please note that if fewer than three significant referee reports have been received by the deadline set by the TWAS Executive Director, the nomination will not be processed. It is recommended that Referees focus their letter on the impact of the nominee's work.

• Authorisation from the nominee to process their personal data for the purposes of their nomination, pursuant to Art. 13 of Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003. In particular, nominees will be contacted by TWAS via the email address entered on the nomination form, and asked to submit their acceptance online, if they so wish, within the deadline indicated.
