Applications are now open for the Liz Hughes Award for Her Farm Radio 2024 . The Liz Hughes Award for Her Farm Radio recognises outstanding radio programmes that cater for women listeners. The winning radio programmes explore and promote gender equality - for example, by sharing women's experiences and opinions, addressing issues that are important to women or highlighting the role of men in gender equality.
The award is given to the broadcaster's team that makes the programme happen, including the manager(s), producer(s), presenter(s), newscaster(s), reporter(s), technician(s), among others. Winning programmes can deal with any subject! In other words, the programme doesn't have to focus exclusively on gender equality issues. For example, you can apply for a programme on health, education, agriculture or a combination of topics. The important thing is that your programme, no matter the topic, caters to women!
Publicity
- In recognition of their excellent work, the winning broadcast team will receive a certificate and a prize of CAD$ 1,000.
Eligibility
- Any Farm Radio International broadcast partner in sub-Saharan Africa can apply for the Liz Hughes Award!
- Winning programmes can deal with any subject! In other words, the programme doesn't have to focus exclusively on gender equality issues.
Application
To apply, broadcasters or station managers must send ALL of the following by e-mail to radio@farmradio.org on behalf of his programme team:
- The application form, filled in with detailed answers.
- A recording of your programme (Send an episode aired in 2022).
- A complete transcript of the episode recorded in English, French, Portuguese, Amharic or Swahili. The transcript (a written version of your episode, including every word spoken by the presenter(s) and each guest) ensures that the award judges can understand the content and quality of your work.
- A typical programme/running schedule in Word or PDF format.
Applications will be accepted in English, French, Amharic, Hausa, Swahili and Portuguese. The deadline for applications is 20 October 2023.
