Applications are now open for the Kokuyo Design Award 2025 . The Kokuyo Design Award is an international product design competition that aims to co-create with talented designers and support their activities. The theme of the Kokuyo Design Award 2025 is "prototyping".
In product design, the word "prototype" is usually used to mean a pre-finished product or a sample before completion, but for this project, they saw it as "an original idea that has the potential to lead to the next step". A well-thought-out prototype will inspire others and serve as a catalyst for the future. The Kokuyo Design Award 2025 looks for product designs that will be the starting point for the future.

More than 24 years have passed since the award was founded and more than 20 products have been created to date. It continues to evolve as a project that conveys value in step with the times, and not simply as something to be selected and awarded.
Prizes
- Grand Prize (one winner): ¥2,000,000 (about US$ 12,800)
- Merit Award (three winners): ¥500,000 (about US$ 3,200) per winner
- NEW GENERATION PRIZE (maximum of ten winners): ¥ 30,000 (around US$ 200) per winner*
Eligibility
- Corporations, organisations, individuals and groups are all welcome, regardless of age, gender, professional experience or nationality.
- Only designs that have never been exhibited publicly (in Japan or other countries) are eligible for entry.
- Eligible entries include any office equipment, furniture or tools used in working, learning and living scenes.
Application
Project applications/submissions will be accepted from 26 July to 12 noon JST on 9 October.
