Applications are now open for the Dubai International Best Practices Award for Sustainable Development 2023 . The Dubai International Prize aims to recognise excellence and support best practice in human settlements and to create a unique global knowledge-sharing platform for best practice in human settlements.
Now in its 25th year, the award recognises the world's best practices that demonstrate valuable contributions to sustainable urban development as a result of effective partnerships between the public, private and civic sectors in the following areas:

- Best Practices in Urban Regeneration and Public Spaces Award: Urban regeneration brings back underutilised assets and redistributes opportunities, increasing urban prosperity and quality of life. Public spaces are considered the backbone of cities. They are crucial to achieving sustainable cities and inclusive communities: providing ecosystem services, improving health and well-being, ensuring social inclusion and economic exchange. This category serves to address the cities of the future; finding ways for cities to guarantee affordable housing and access to food, water, clean air, mobility, public life and nature for ever-increasing urban populations.
- The most beautiful, innovative and iconic building: The he development of sustainable and iconic buildings requires a holistic analysis of local and life cycle data in the design of truly bioclimatic and responsive developments, to make them a distinctive brand in the world. They balance the preservation of resources, habitats, heritage, visual appeal and optimisation of well-being, quality, accessibility and performance. This category recognises the most iconic, intelligent, innovative and human-centred sustainable projects that combine ecological design and construction practices with modern, intelligent architectural excellence in an innovative eco-human-cultural approach.
- Award for Best Practices in Sustaining Urban Food Systems: Food security is defined as the state of having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of nutritious and affordable food. This category envisages systemic changes and greatly improved access to food for all people, while maintaining a strong link between the production, storage and supply of food to local, regional and global beneficiaries, showing an impact on human settlements.
- Award for Best Practices in Tackling Climate Change and Reducing Pollution: The he living environment is defined as the natural world, as a whole or in a specific geographical area, especially when it is affected by human activity. This category covers solutions that address climate change, pollution reduction and the protection of a thriving biodiversity, including long-term multi-level governance mechanisms, stakeholder engagement, disaster management and the circular economy.
- Best Practices in Urban Infrastructure Planning and Management Award: Infrastructure is defined as the basic physical and organisational structures and facilities (e.g. buildings, roads, energy sources, etc.) necessary for the functioning of a society or company. This category aims to find adaptable, local and resilient solutions that will allow for a longer life cycle of infrastructures due to the accelerated transformations in line with the 4th industrial revolution, featuring innovative, futuristic and sustainable projects that improve living conditions.

- Applicants may register in more than one category. However, a project cannot be used in more than one category.
