Applications are now open for the Africa Soft Power Climate Change Photo Essay Award 2024 . The Climate Change Photo Essay Prize invites young people aged 18 to 30 from Africa and the global diaspora community to document the environmental changes taking place before their eyes. Following the success of the first edition of the Climate Change Photo Essay Prize in 2023, they are pleased to launch the second edition of the prize with the theme - "At a crossroads: Climate and change".

This theme asks young photographers to consider how the ecological crisis is currently changing lives, how innovation and technology are responding to the crisis and where change is not happening fast enough. The world is now at a crossroads when it comes to climate change, and photography can serve both as a tool to defend rights and as a barometer to show us where we are.Topic Statement: Climate and Change: How the ecological crisis changes lives, how innovation responds to the crisis and where change isn't happening fast enough .

Benefits

  • The winner will receive a cash prize and the finalists' work will be presented at international exhibitions, building on the success of last year's prize, which saw the finalists' work exhibited in Nairobi, New York, Lagos, London and Kigali.

EligibilityOpen to young people aged 18 to 30 from Africa and the global diaspora community.

Participants don't have to be professional photographers or artists - everyone is encouraged to take part.

Entrants must submit a photo essay of three to five photographs that tell a cohesive story and address the theme.

Application

  • All entries must be the participant's own work.
  • Once the Participant has uploaded their photos, they will not be able to change or edit the submission.
  • Photos must be at least 1200px on the largest side and at least 72dpi - only digital images will be accepted. (Keep full-size versions of the images in your library, as they may require them if your photo essay is chosen as the winner.)
  • Submitted JPG/JPEG image files should be no larger than 10 MB each
  • No watermark or digital frames or borders
  • The entrant's entry form must include the title of the photo essay and the photo selections. Please note that the judges will not read descriptions or explanations of any entrant's work.
