• Companies, NGOs, governmental organizations, and social enterprises (both for-profit and non-profit, including community groups) are eligible. Each award is limited to work in specific parts of the world.

To be selected and win an award, all candidates must meet these eligibility criteria:

• The work submitted for the award must be currently available to clients, customers, or beneficiaries.
• The candidate must demonstrate an innovative approach in their work.
• The candidate's work must have the potential to create a significant impact. This can be achieved through the growth of the organization or the replication of its innovation worldwide. Candidates must be willing to work with Ashden and others to achieve this goal. “Significant” impact could be a large reduction in emissions, a mitigation or adaptation action that addresses a serious threat to people's well-being, or a transformation in the quality of life of people – especially the most marginalized.
• The candidate must demonstrate good governance and management. They are looking for efficient use of funds and a solid plan to generate additional revenue, whether through sales, grants, or any other source. Organizations may be for-profit or non-profit. Winners must have sustainability embedded in their values and practices.
