About FIG: The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is an important department of the IFC, responsible for around 40% of the IFC's turnover and development impact. FIG operates in several sub-sectors, including Microfinance, SMEs, Gender, Climate, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing and Distressed Assets, providing investment and advisory services worldwide. FIG focuses on financial inclusion, serving the real economy and mobilising third-party resources to build efficient financial systems that promote economic growth and development.
Position overview: FIG is looking for an investment analyst to join the investment and portfolio team in Johannesburg. The role involves originating, managing and monitoring IFC's financial sector investments in Southern Africa.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Carry out market analyses and assess the financial strength of companies or project opportunities.
- Perform financial statement analysis, financial modelling and analysis of comparable companies.
- Analyse debt price benchmarks and stock trading comparables.
- Assess market conditions, gaps and business opportunities using mapping methodology.
- Co-ordinate the collection of data to assess the impact of financial, operational, development and market information.
- Prepare business documents and presentations by distilling and summarising large amounts of information.
- Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders, demonstrating active listening skills.
Selection criteria:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 2 to 5 years' experience in a financial institution, particularly in investment projects.
- Proficiency in developing complex financial models.
- Strong interest in development finance and multicultural environments.
- High motivation, ethical standards and ability to work in multicultural teams.
- Strong knowledge of financial institutions and markets.
- Excellent analytical, conceptual and communication skills.
- Proficiency in English, French or Portuguese is desirable.
