The Youth in Development Boot Camp and Fellowship provide civic leaders with the skills and tools to effectively initiate and lead social change initiatives. Most of the alumni of this programme have gone on to create viable and highly impactful social enterprises that are transforming the socio-economic landscapes of their communities. Sozo Networks and IMPACT Toolbox are delighted to welcome another cohort of outstanding young Africans to this unique professional development experience. IMPACT Toolbox is proudly supported by the Rustandy Centre for Social Innovation at Chicago Booth Business School, Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago, and Appalachian State University, Booth North Carolina, USA.

One hundred (100) young leaders will take part in a 3-day virtual boot camp. During this transformative learning experience, participants will hone their leadership skills and gain insights into leading sustainable social change. These one hundred (100) young leaders would have the unique opportunity to learn directly from social change leaders with exceptional track records and academics from around the world. Participants would become part of Sozo Networks and Sozo Networks' formidable network of social change leaders. At the end of the boot camp, each participant will present an action plan and a proposed social enterprise idea that reflects what they have learnt. Twenty (20) of the participants would become the 2021 Youth in Development (YID) Fellows based on the quality of their action plans and social enterprise idea proposal. 2021 Yid Fellows will engage in a 3-month professional development programme during which they will enjoy the following through the Impact Toolbox:
- Free access to over US$ 1,200 online courses
- Opportunity to launch up to US $ 3,000 seed funding
- Exclusive mentoring and one-to-one strategy sessions
- Connecting with peer collaborators from other parts of the world
- Exclusive networking opportunities
Eligibility requirements
- Have an idea or initiative for social change
- Be between 18 and 35 years old on or before the enrolment deadline
- You are a citizen of an African country and reside on the continent
- Be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English
- Be available to take part in a 3-day online boot camp from 25 to 27 February 2021
- Willing to leave the training to at least ten (10) other people
Selection criteria
- The review of applications will begin after the submission deadline from 6 January 2021
- After our assessment and verification, successful candidates would be notified in the first week of February 2021.
- Twenty-20 YID Fellows would later be selected after the boot camp for continued professional development experience and mentoring based on the quality of their social enterprise ideas.
