Deadline: 01-Jan-2023

The Conservation, Food and Health Foundation is seeking applications for its grant programme to protect natural resources, improve food production and distribution and promote public health in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.

The foundation helps to empower organisations and coalitions with donations that support research or improve learning and the generation of local solutions to complex problems.

The foundation supports projects that demonstrate local leadership and promote professional development in conservation science, agriculture and health; build the capacity of local organisations; and address a specific problem or issue in the field. It prefers to support projects that address underfunded issues and geographical areas.

Fields of interest

The foundation supports special projects and programmes by non-governmental organisations in three areas: conservation, food and health. The following are examples of areas of interest within these fields, but they are not intended to be exclusive.

  • Conservation
    • Conservation grants help improve ecological and environmental conditions in low- and middle-income countries. The foundation supports field research and related research activities, training and technical assistance efforts that:
      • help conserve ecosystems and protect biodiversity
      • training local leaders in conservation and resource protection, with an emphasis on technical and scientific training
  • Food
    • Food subsidies support research-based efforts to improve food and nutrition security and enhance natural resources and ecosystems. Areas of interest include projects that:
      • promote or develop specific sustainable agricultural practices with the potential to advance science and practice in other countries;
      • testing and refining innovative education and training interventions for small farmers; and
      • advance new approaches to controlling pests and diseases that affect important food crops in low-income countries.
  • Health
    • The foundation supports public health programmes that focus on populations rather than individuals. It funds programmes that emphasise disease prevention and health promotion over those that emphasise the diagnosis, treatment and care of diseases. It supports research, technical assistance and training projects that:
      • improving public health through community efforts that address health promotion, disease prevention, family planning and reproductive health; and
      • increasing the understanding and treatment of neglected tropical diseases

Financing information

There is no policy regarding a minimum or maximum donation size. The average grant is approximately US $ 20,000. Grants of more than US $ 30,000 are rarely awarded.

  • focus on regional or cross-border issues and opportunities
  • feature collaborative partnerships embedded in strong networks
  • strengthening local leadership and scientific capacity
  • influencing public discourse and politics
  • focus on prevention rather than remediation
  • attract additional support and hold out the promise of continuation or impact beyond the foundation's support period

Geographical focus

The foundation supports low- and middle-income countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East. It prefers to support organisations located in low- and middle-income countries or organisations located in high-income countries whose activities directly benefit low- and middle-income countries.
